I want to file bankruptcy but i need to know how long typically it would take to start getting credit again?
Im only 21 yrs old, just moved fom ny to atlanta in feb but i have alot of unpaid medical bills that my insurance didnt pick up that i cant afford to pay. I also had 2 credit cards when i was 18 and i maxed those out. Citibank is suing me for a loan i never received.i also have 3 different bank accts in collections due to id theft that wasnt fully investigated. and last but not least, i have a comcast bill that totaled to $1500 b/c a family member used the phone to make international calls and refused to pay it and now lives out of the country. what kind of bankruptcy should i file if any?i have 1 car in my name that i pay the note on and my husband has a car that were paying the note on. Will my husband be included in this too?he has new credit but i know the link married people's credit together. Someone advice.....please!!!!!

- sorry sweety but bankruptcy is not what it used to be.You will still have to repay them.
- i have file bankruptcy 3 times in my life. my advice if your 21 is go to a credit repair company. in 1986 my id was stolen checking accounts opened $500,000 in checks and accounts open back then id theft was unheard of. i filed bankurpcy bad advice from a attorney. allthough i spend 50 hours a week for 8 months trying to clear up the mess. i put 7 people in prison they spend 28 years combine i prison. but it did nothing for me the credit reports still showed all the lies about my credit. untill i filed the only reason i filed was some of the checks got judgements against me and start is get money from my pay checks. after i filed my first b i bought a new car @ 26%. i kept the payments up 18 months never last try to get i low rate loan couldn't get one. so i started double payments, but then i had a medical probelm missed 1 payment, no big deal right i was pay 6 months ahead. they repo the car after 30 days. they wanted $1200.00 to get my car out. i got piss told them to f off. they sold for $800.00 my car trade in @ dealership.$12500.00 before the repo. i file chapter 13. 2 years of payments later my $50,000.00 job cut my pay to $35,000.00 six months later another pay cut. $28,000.00 i quit walk out on a friday when i was told able the cut. my chapter 13 i could not make the payments. they reverse the chapter 13. last june i filed chapter 7 it took to nov 15 to complete. i opened checking and savings @ us bank and a local credit union the credit union i put $700.00 in a cd and got a $700.00 loan @ 1% above the cd rate. they gave me a credit card for $200.00, but they want me to take a credit class they offer. they said in 6 months if i am on time with my payments i can get more loans. also the manager told me that all credit card need to be under 50%. get more credit.
- It's seven years. If you file and are married, you are effectively declaring your husband bankrupt, too. You would be far better off working out a payment plan with each of your creditors...
- If your husband can pay all the bills his name is on, he does not need to file. If you jointly owe any debts you will be discharged and he won't if he doesn't file. As for Citibank suing you, if you never received money for it you should be contesting it and require proof. If they can't prove it they will lose the law suit. Medical providers often are willing to work out payment plans with people too. I don't know what to tell you about the credit cards, but you can often settle with them directly. If this is not possible for you, bankruptcy may make sense, but you need to see an attorney to help you make this decision as they will walk you through the process.
