ID Theft. What info is needed to open a bank account in my name?
The details that were give were : First Name, 2nd Name, Last name, Nationality, Postal address, D.O.B, Tel No, Sex. Occupation, Marital Status, Monthly Income, EMail Address. What damage could an ID Fraudster do with this info; Open a bank account? By a mansion? A Car, Plasma TV? Or could they buy things on credit?

- There has to be money in the account in the first place to rob it.
- I'd like to know the answer to this too..I need a new ID
- Freakin is wrong about there "needing to be money in the account", and is a good example of why intelligent people are often victims of identity theft. With the details you gave, a thief can open a NEW bank account/credit card account in your name, but at a new address, explaining that he (you) has recently moved. He can then buy stuff on the card up to the approved credit limit, and vanish... Be careful what info you share!
- You need a social security number to open a bank account // make a new credit card. So I'd say you're safe in those respects. What did you lose, exactly?
- If it was a bank in the uk, I would suggest they would would legally require proof of ID. This would require ID with photograph such as Passport or new style driving licence. Part of the check is impersonation. I wouldn't think you could open a new account and change the address (???)
