life lock identity protection?

Has anybody tried this? It says that they will let you know whenever somebody tries to use your identityand those people are arrested and stuff. And they want a lot of money for this service. But dont you think that this service should be free to us? All the interest we pay if we use a cedit card should be put towards our protection since we give these banks our money. Agree? Since nearly everyone uses a bank they should be protecting our identities. Who would you contact to suggest this idea? I didnt ask what it is. I already know. Im saying it should be a protection we should be offered. The government wants our money to pay taxes so they should do something to protect our identities. How do we let the government know that we want our idetities protected?

  1. The are passing similar legislation here in Ohio.. where we will be able to put a freeze on our credit, and then unfreeze it when we want to use it. Hope other states follow! On the lifelock thing... I think it is not so much a scam(personal opinion) but you pay 10.00/month to do something you can do on your own for free but most people don't want to deal with the bureaus and all the crap they put you through. I think its some sort of 'flag' to be notified when your credit is pulled which you could set up on your own every 90 days or so.
  2. This service is free, but you have to know how to do it. You have three credit reports (transunion, equifax, and experian). You can contact all three and they can put a lock on your credit to where if someone applies for credit in your name, including yourself, additional steps are taken by the creditor to verify your identity. Try going to www.annualcreditreport.com for help. (that is a free site set up by the fed gov, you shouldn't ever be asked to enter a credit card number.
  3. This is a identity theft protection that is not provided by your credit card lender. It is a private company and to prove how efficient it is, the owner of the company is advertising his ssn, something that everyone warns you against doing as it is a method that unscrupulous types use to gain your identity. His proof is that despite advertising it, no one can use it. But of course, if you're not interested in paying for the service, it's all moot. It is definitely not a scam.
  4. I didnt like it I had got protected from a different company
