An identity theft protection agency keeps charging my bank account even after i canceled the service Help!?

I agreed to pay for the service while I was studying abroad because I wanted to be safe about my credit card usage. I canceled the program about two months after I got home and was told I would not be charged but they have charged me twice since then. I've called the agency repeatedly and they keep giving me the run around and have even gone as far as hanging up on me.

  1. You will need to do a stop payment on it and you can also do a dispute with your bank so the company has to give you your money back.
  2. Do you remember what date and who you talked to when you called and cancelled? If so, call and talk to a "MANAGER" or supervisor. Explain the problem and be sure to get their name and date you called them. The peon's who answer the calls do not have an" pull".....talk to someone in charge and be firm! Good Luck :)
  3. call your bank/debit card company and let them know. It helps if you have some kind of written proof specifying that you canceled the service. If they are charging you though your debit card (mastercard or visa) you can call them and they will refund your money and take care of it and make sure to let them know if there are any more attempts to charge you they should let you know. Also you can threaten the service with a lawsuit. Tell them if they don't stop charging you, you're going to contact a lawyer about taking legal action.
  4. Call them again and speak to a supervisor. get the person's name, first and last, not just the first name. Explain the situation. Find out both their mailing and actual physical address where they are incorporated. Be firm, rememebr that you be tape recorded ( in, fact, you can also tape record and tell them that is what you are doing!) Request back payments as well as stopping future payments. Even if they say that it is cancelled, go directly to the bank and pull the authorization. You may have to fill out dispute forms. Send them a cancellation in writing, keep a copy. Contact better business bureau where the business is located. ( if you don't know, call them up and ask, by law they MUST respond accurately) Inquire about other complaints, make a complaint of your own ( may be able to do this on line, otherwise it is a phone call.) Document everything you have tried, who you spoke to, when, at what number, what was the gist of the conversation? If all of the above fails to work, take the documentation to the district attorney and ask him to file fraud charges. ( there are also many government agencies to help deal with this type of thing, but that could be a whole other answer!) These should get you started and cost little.
  5. Send a registered letter, of you intent to stop the protection service, to the protection company. That way, you will have a receipt that proves they received the letter. Make a copy of the letter, take it and proof that the registered letter was delivered, to your bank. Explain this situation to them, as you have here, and tell them you need to stop the auto-payment on that service. The bank personnel will know how to handle this problem.
  6. Only way to resolve that is to close the account (bank or credit card, either one), with a criminal report about the theft. You *may* be able to "charge-back" the stolen funds. Then, learn the lesson and have better sense than to fall for such scammers. Closing the account is the ONLY proactive way to prevent future charges. Otherwise, you'll be going through the motions indefinitely.
