Laptop stolen with personal info. How do I protect against ID theft?
My laptop with all my tax records, online sales receipts and a bunch of personal info got stolen from my home. How can I protect myself against ID theft & credit fraud?

- idk
- Notify all three credit bureaus of your incident and they'll 'flag' your credit report for any activity. They'll give you a code to use if you actually need credit. Make sure local authorities are aware of the theft. Good Luck
- leanr not to store that info on your laptop unencrpyted for one. the second thing you would do is contact the police, the credit card companies and anyone else who might be involved to get them to stop your card use and cancel any new payments. then you have to contact a credit beaurea to get them to put a hold on your accounts and any activity using your ssn. i think they leave it on for six months. and you would not be able to open anything for that time yourself even if you were the rightful owner. but thats at least a start.
